Frequently Asked Dog Training Questions

My service will save you well over a thousand dollars! Sending your dog away will cost at least $1500 and likely much more. Despite what these trainers tell you, your money will get you nothing more than simple obedience tricks and the aversive techniques used by these trainers usually cause irreparable psychological problems.

More notably, I have NEVER met a dog that was well behaved simply because he knew obedience commands. 100% of the adult dogs I meet know basic dog training commands, yet they still have behavioral issues. If simple obedience is the answer, why do our dogs have these problems? Why pay for a service to control physical symptoms when the real problem is how your dog thinks?

My promise to you is that our training will make you more knowledgeable, more confident and more successful than ever in effectively eradicating your dog’s behavior problems. After all, what do you really want? A dog who needs to be told to stop and sit for the rest of their lives or a dog who stays calm and polite despite the distractions they encounter everyday?

My goal is simple. I want to be the last dog trainer you’ll ever need to hire for any reason!

Yes! We offer remote learning consultations via Zoom. These consults offer the same in-depth discussions regarding your problems and no corners are cut. Some people choose a quick 30-minute discussion to cover issues like potty training and others require a full 2-hour meeting. No matter what your problems or needs are, we can help you! Some people wonder how it’s possible to help if we don’t meet the dog. Just remember, it’s not the dog, it’s you! By making small tweaks to the expectations you have for your dog and learning to provide clarity in communication, you will be amazed at the difference. If it wasn’t a popular option for our out state clients and if it didn’t work, we wouldn’t offer it. Click here to get started.

When dogs are sent away to in-board training kennels or work exclusively with trainers, they learn very quickly that the trainers are in charge. When you go to a training center and work in a group, boundaries are established and the dog knows he isn’t the center of attention. Once they get back home, they immediately revert back to their old behavior. This is why in-home training is crucial to the success of your dog’s training.

I offer owner education courses, behavior modification consultations, house training and obedience training for dogs of any age. It is never too early to learn how to communicate properly with your dog. In fact, you need to start the moment you take your new puppy home.

Absolutely. Separation anxiety can come from many contributing factors. Usually, the dog simply lacks confidence. This is a treatable and reversible condition.

Yes. There are many different types of aggression and I will need to determine what kind(s) of aggression your dog is displaying. If the dog has a history of attacks where the dog has bitten someone or caused injury, a muzzle will be required.

I ALWAYS let the dog tell me what will work best. If a trainer cannot listen to the dog then you probably don’t want to hire them. Generally speaking, I only endorse positive methods. I normally advise my clients to avoid the use of shock collars, head halters or choke chains.

If my advice is followed, you will have very few “accidents” after I leave. It is important to remember that the owners must follow through with the house training and be consistent. With consistency and patience, most dogs are 100% reliable within 3-4 weeks.

Not unless he has a physical condition that will prevent him from performing. Older dogs can learn just as fast as, and in some cases, faster than young dogs. Even the most stubborn, aged dogs can be conditioned to “learn new tricks.”

This is arguably the most popular question, and with good reason. All dogs and their situations are different. It is important that I speak with you to determine yours. Sometimes owners are unaware that certain behaviors are a key factor in diagnosing and recommending a course of action. Because of this, only after a brief phone consultation can I offer a quote based on your situation.

Dog owners often sabotage their dog without knowing it. People apply human psychology and use emotions to control their dogs and this is when the trouble begins. Most people will say they don’t understand why their dog is so bad, and that they give him everything he wants! Owners don’t realize that their behaviors are, in fact, the greatest influence on their dogs. Understanding how to fulfill your dog’s needs will unlock his true personality and give you the relationship you really want.

Nothing, unless you understand how to control your dog’s excitement and instincts.

I serve the entire Raleigh NC area. Our service area includes: Angier, Apex, Benson, Cary, Clayton, Dunn, Four Oaks, Fuquay Varina, Garner, Goldsboro, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Raleigh, Wake Forest and Smithfield.

No. I firmly believe that group classes do not accomplish enough for owners. Group classes are generally easy money for trainers and while the owners and dogs do learn some things, your time and money could be invested in private training which is tailored to your exact needs. If you want socialization, go to a dog park, it’s free.

While having general knowledge in this area, I spend the majority of my time working with dogs and families to create a calm, submissive state of mind suited for family environments.

Adopted dogs are the best! These dogs are fantastic companions and even if they have been abused or neglected in the past, we can rehabilitate them.
